“Syllabic”

Girl and I worked on writing Halloween haikus today (part of the homeschooling and all).  Hers reads:

Halloween

Halloween darkness
Boo! Ghosts and witches, Bats fly
Ooo! and vampires

Mine reads:

Halloween Theft

Dressed as a gypsy
Nasty boys stole her candy
I gave her my gum

True story.

A handful of hours after Haiku Time, we headed out for recess.  During our walk, I took photos.  Here is one, with accompanying haiku:

Stairway to Heaven

If you build a mosque
Eventually it falls
This is what remains

    I, of course, read "gun".
    Then read it again to be sure.
    My version is best

    Damned if I can get rid of that extra syllable in the second line

    Which one has the extra syllable for you, Ms. Jazz? I realized today how often syllable count ties into personal accent; turns out my hubs and I pronounce "Eventually" with the same number of syllables (5)–but I can see many folks finding it has 4.

    Yeah, I just went back and counted syllables in all three middle lines. All 7's. But I think Jazz means her own haiku answer.

    My daughter couldn't find pumpkins for Halloween or that holiday on the third Thursday in November that no one in any other country celebrates….we seem to think that holiday is universal for some reason….so-any jack-o-lanterns for you?

    Very impressive photo and haiku poems! Your daughter's is very good. Okay, so are you, and Jazz, and secret agent, and diane. I won't even try.

    Slowly, slowly, slowly catching up & was going to save comments for the latest, but this photo is beyond words…

    Love the haikus and Paco's video from earlier. Also, if you keep getting caught in the rain all the time, you must either invest in a poncho or give up running altogether. I mean, that's twice, by my count, that you've been ambushed by lightning without a cave (or a monastery). Not a comfortable statistic (nor for you–duh). We need you around for more of this!!!
